Gooey chocolate tray baked dominoes

This delicious easy to make traybake can be decorated in any way you like but we have made the slices look like dominoes by using white chocolate chips as the numbers.


  • 8oz Self-raising flour
  • 8oz Soft margerine
  • 8oz Caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence


  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp hot water

Butter Icing

  • 4oz butter
  • 8oz icing sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (sieved with icing sugar)
  • 2 tbsp milk


  • White chocolate chips


  1. Place all the sponge ingredients in to a mixing bowl. Stir well with a wooden spoon until light and fluffy and all the margarine has been mixed in. Blend the cocoa powder with the hot water and mix thoroughly into the sponge mixture.
  2. Line the small roasting tin with Bake O Glide and spoon in the mixture.
  3. 2 oven Aga, hang the tin on the bottom set of runners of the roasting oven. Slide the cold shelf onto the second set of runners from the top of the oven and bake the cake for 25-30 minutes, until firm to the touch when pressed lightly in the middle.
  4. 3/4 oven Aga, hang the tin on the bottom set of runners of the baking oven and bake the cake for 30-35 minutes until firm to the touch when pressed lightly in the middle.
  5. For the butter icing, place all the ingredients in a bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until light and fluffy.
  6. Once the sponge is cooled spread the butter icing on the top and add the white chocolate chips to decorate.
